Since the Italian’s hot drink is typically linked with cappuccinos, then, as an Italian manufacturer, we may expect that DeLonghi understands better in defining a premium cup of the beverage. And they try to do so by presenting their EC155 and EC702 to the market. As a cappuccino is made by adding hot milk and steamed milk foam onto an espresso base, it is unsurprising that both of them are cappuccino and espresso makers. Interestingly, one of the models comes with a price that doubles the other model’s price. Why does it happen?
DeLonghi EC702 is priced higher than DeLonghi EC155. They both are basically working with a 15-bar pressure pump, featuring built-in tamper and milk frother, able to serve either single or double shots, and consuming 1100 Watts of input power. However, there are a number of things that make them different from each other, and cause the EC702 to be more expensive. First, EC702’s exterior is made from stainless steel while EC155’s is made from plastic. Hence, EC702 can be much more durable for longer usage and simply appears more classy. Second, EC702’s water tank capacity is larger, making it handier in real usage. The larger the water tank is, the better.
Third, EC702 has a better milk frother design than EC155. The frother in EC702 stretches the milk in order to aerate and generate the proper creamy texture. On the other hand, EC155’s milk frother simply moves left and right. Therefore, you can get a cappuccino with better texture from EC702. Fourth, EC702 features push buttons as opposed to EC155’s dial control. (Let us also see: Breville ESP8XL Vs DeLonghi EC702)

Given the extra edges, no wonder DeLonghi EC702 comes with a higher price than EC155. Unfortunately, the gap is significant. I would say, if you are obsessed with the best cups of beverages, then DeLonghi EC702 is your way to go. But, if you are okay with a simple cappuccino, DeLonghi is offering a better value per money spent.
