Are you looking for a reliable espresso maker that delivers shots after shots with consistent quality? Delonghi is one of the most renowned manufacturers that produce high-quality coffee maker machines. Delonghi’s products are widely loved for both home and professional use. For a budget-friendly yet reliable espresso maker, there are two interesting options from Delonghi. Meet Delonghi EC702 and Delonghi EC680. These two products are generally considered to be in the same price range, but Delonghi EC680 is usually a step more expensive than Delonghi EC702. So, what are the differences between the two coffee makers?
Design and Construction
As you can see, Delonghi EC680 is significantly slimmer and more compact than Delonghi EC702. Delonghi EC680 is barely half the size of Delonghi EC702. It requires significantly less surface area, making it a very nice choice for a small kitchen. In addition, Delonghi EC702 is coming with plastic and metal construction. There are more plastic parts than metal parts, although the finish is indeed stainless steel. That is good; the stainless steel exterior makes the coffee maker very easy and effortless to clean. However, the portafilter head as well as the steaming wand are plastic, not very durable. On the other hand, Delonghi EC680 is coming with a more durable metal construction, also with a stainless steel finish. Delonghi EC680 is available in three color choices: silver, red, and black. The portafilter head and steaming wand are fully stainless steel for the best durability.

Both models are equipped with removable water tanks, allowing for easy and convenient refilling. But Delonghi EC702’s tank has 44 oz capacity whereas Delonghi EC680’s has 35 oz capacity. These two models have 15-bar pumps. Both also use different heating elements; Delonghi EC702 works with a stainless steel boiler with dual thermostats, while Delonghi EC680 works with the thermoblock heating element. We must say that both models work well consistently. Both can work with ground coffee and coffee pods. Both have integrated frother systems, though Delonghi EC680’s is better due to the stainless steel steaming wand mentioned above. Both models support the One Touch Control with Automatic Flow Stop and Energy Saving features. However, Delonghi EC680 has an optional water filter, whereas Delonghi EC702 doesn’t have any at all.
